Seven Highlights from 2025: A Message from Board Chair John Poe and Rochester Mayor Kim Norton

As we turn the page on 2025, we’re reflecting on a successful year and sharing a look at where we’re headed. Here are our top seven highlights for the year.

  1. $70 million secured for critical infrastructure improvements. RST was awarded a rare federal and state grant totaling $70 million. This investment ensures we remain on schedule to complete the final phases of our runway safety improvements and General Aviation ramp reconstruction. Both projects—supporting safety and reliability for commercial, cargo and private aircraft—are expected to be complete in 2027.
  2. A strong financial position. RST ended 2025 with more than $1 million in net profits which will be used for future airport investments. Our outlook for 2026 continues to be financially stable.
  3. Passenger growth. The Flocal (Fly Local) campaign continues to deliver results, with approximately 6% more travelers—that’s 11,679 passengers!—in 2025 compared to 2024. In 2025, Flocal and Flocal 2.0 made a splash, generating 8.6 million social media impressions and earning two international Telly Awards.
  4. Return of United Airlines. Demonstrating that we can put “more butts in seats” helped bring United Airlines (the world’s largest airline) back to RST, with three daily nonstop flights to Chicago O’Hare launching April 30, 2026. United’s return significantly expands connectivity for southeastern Minnesota and strengthens access to hundreds of domestic and international destinations.
  5. National leadership representation. Executive Director John Reed was appointed to the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Board of Directors, bringing RST’s perspective to a national airport leadership platform.
  6. Award-winning airfield advancements. Upgraded systems enhancing all-weather landing capabilities were fully implemented in 2025, improving pilot safety during low-visibility conditions. This effort earned RST the 2025 Commercial Airport Project of the Year award from the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives.
  7. Community connection beyond the terminal. RST continued to serve the region through meaningful community engagement in 2025, including hosting North Star Honor Flights, youth aviation programs, and participation in family-friendly community events.

Many factors contribute to the airport’s continued success. RST’s ownership by the City of Rochester and operation by Mayo Clinic creates a strong, stable partnership that supports long-term resilience, financial strength, and operational excellence. RST’s continued support from state and federal legislators—who understand the importance of investing in regional aviation infrastructure—is also critical. Finally, we have a strong airport team whose commitment to safety and service is unparalleled.

With a productive and energetic 2025 behind us, we’re excited about what’s ahead in 2026. Thanks for your continued support of RST!
