GA Ramp Replacement

Paving is currently occurring in Work Area 2 and is anticipated to be completed by August 25th. This marks the final work associated with Work Area 2, which is anticipated to reopen to aircraft traffic by August 28th, subject to weather delays and any unforeseen events. The contractor is expected to begin work in Work Area 3 on August 26th. Work Area 3 (shown in dark gray and blue) is estimated to span 8 to 10 weeks and includes construction of concrete parking pads and reconstruction of apron pavement to the east of Work Area 2, the addition of a new vehicle access road with high-speed gates, utility installation, and the mill and overlay of the T-hangar pavement.

T-hangar taxilane resurfacing has been delayed and will not occur until late September, at the earliest. We will continue to update our GA community as the timing is solidified.

Taxiway K can be accessed from Taxilane 3 as seen in this screenshot. Punchlist work will occur periodically on or around this newly paved surface. During Work Area 2, Signature Aviation will park aircraft in Work Area 1 (shown in light gray).

Work Area 2 paving is currently expected to begin around August 20^th, though could be delayed due to weather or other unforeseen factors. Taxiway J (shown in orange) has been permanently removed.

Work Area 2 is anticipated to be reopened the week of August 24^th, subject to weather delays and any unforeseen events.

On July 8, the contractor began construction in Work Area 2, which comprises the central portion of the apron (shown in dark gray and orange). This involves removing existing asphalt surface, installing additional storm drain, reconstructing and expanding the apron pavement toward Taxiway A, and some grading south of the apron. Taxiway J (shown in orange) is now permanently closed and will be removed during this phase of the project. Twenty-five (25) working days (5-6 weeks) are anticipated for Work Area 2, subject to weather delays and any unforeseen events. During this time, Signature Aviation will park aircraft in Work Area 1 (shown in light gray).

T-hangar taxilane resurfacing (Work Area 3) is still anticipated for mid-August.

Base rock for paving the current apron work area was completed in mid-June. A test strip of asphalt was placed on June 22nd and approved on June 24, 2026. Paving will continue for an additional 3-5 days. The contractor will continue to haul asphalt on Taxilane 3 (just north of the apron’s west edge). The contractor and paving company will yield to and move out of the way of aircraft traffic on the taxilanes during this process. The schedule of this work is entirely weather dependent. Contractor crews continue to maintain the site and restore disturbed areas to keep conditions stable and safe.

On June 15th a new phase of work began at Taxiway K, which required the closure of Taxiway A between A7 and A8 for 10 days, weather permitting. Taxiway A is scheduled to reopen the afternoon of June 25th.
Due to the delays in Work Area 1, the T-hangar taxilane resurfacing initially anticipated for July will be delayed. At this time, the best-case scenario earliest timeframe in which that work would begin is mid-August.

A portion of Taxiway A will be closed to aircraft traffic for a 10-day period beginning Monday, June 15^th at 7:00 a.m. Taxiway A is expected to reopen by 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24^th. As always, this work is weather-dependent, and it is possible the reopening could be delayed. During this time, the alternate taxi route is for aircraft taxiing from the west to exit Taxiway A onto Taxiway A8, back-taxi on Runway 13/31, then use Taxiway A7 to rejoin Taxiway A. Taxiways J and H can be used to access the GA ramp. Pilots should confirm and coordinate taxi routes with the air traffic control tower. This closure is necessary to complete the reconstruction of Taxiway K where it connects to Taxiway A.

Additionally, the test strip paving for the west portion of the GA ramp is currently scheduled for Tuesday, June 16^th (weather-dependent). Please see the June 5^th update below for more information on what to expect during this first phase of paving.

In mid-April, limestone rock was discovered below the old apron (Work Area 1C) and to the west (Work Area 1B) where new storm drains are being constructed. The contractor spent a few weeks in April and early May removing the rock, resulting in slower than expected excavation and adding time to the schedule. In late May, the new storm drains under the apron were completed and base rock installation began on June 1^st.

During the next portion of work, the contractor will be hauling asphalt on Taxilane 3 (just north of the apron’s west edge). The contractor and paving company will yield to and move out of the way of aircraft traffic on the taxilanes during this process. This work is entirely weather dependent, but may start as early as June 15^th. When this eventually occurs, there will be a single day of paving for the test strip. There is a delay of at least a day after paving the test strip, then they will pave 3-5 days in a row. If rain is encountered, the first day of paving could be delayed. In the meantime, crews are maintaining the site and restoring disturbed areas to keep conditions stable and safe.

Work Area 1 begins April 13 and includes west apron construction and closure of Taxiway K.

The presentation included the proposed schedule and project phasing information.  Construction is anticipated to begin in early April, weather permitting, and end in November.

Work is picking back up on the GA ramp project. Last month, crews demolished the old T-hangar near the GA ramp to make way for future hangar and infrastructure development. Crews also completed installation of new DarkSky-compliant LED apron light fixtures on the cargo and GA aprons. This lighting upgrade is more energy-efficient and directs more of the light down onto the ramp where it is most needed, reducing unnecessary light pollution.

Federal and state grant funding for the GA Ramp Expansion project was secured in mid-September. Due to the unpredictability of fall weather, the contractor intends to move forward with limited construction activities this fall. Users can expect to see improvements to the GA ramp lighting with the conversion of the existing lighting to LED lighting this fall or winter. No pavement reconstruction will occur this fall. The remainder of the reconstruction and expansion work is expected to begin in April or May 2026. Users can expect to receive notification of a user meeting in the spring where the project team will share project phasing details, anticipated closure schedules, alternate routes to and from impacted areas, and ways to keep up to date on the latest developments. RST and its design and construction partners are excited to begin work on the GA Ramp Expansion project. Although later than originally expected, federal and state grant funding is anticipated to be secured by the end of September 2025.

Once the funding is available, the contractor intends to move forward with limited construction activities this fall, such as earthwork, grading, drainage, apron lighting upgrades, and pipe installation. No pavement reconstruction will occur this fall, with the majority of the reconstruction and expansion work taking place in 2026.
